Don't worry about the welfare of the crying child pictured above being grasped by a grinning topless wrestler. It's just Japan's annual crying-baby contest, the Naki Sumo festival. It's considered good luck when your infant cries when held by the hefty sportsmen, it's a way of warding off evil spirits and preserving good health. Who cares about the future therapy bills?

A passing fire chief was the first to spot the fire at a five-story warehouse in Bridgeport, Ill. One third of the city's on-duty firefighters were called in to control the blaze which rapidly destroyed the warehouse in what the city's fire commissioner called the biggest fire in Chicago in seven years. Meanwhile, the temperature had plunged to well below freezing, resulting in the icescape captured .
Talk about extreme sports. India's 'Rural Olympics,' the Kila Raipur Sports Festival. The three-day festival, held every February, attracts more than a million people to the village of Kila Raipur to watch some 4,000 brave participants of all ages celebrate India's Punjab culture. They do that by competing in events like getting run over by farm equipment, balancing stacks of people on motorcycles, and using teeth for things that teeth normally should not be used for: pulling tractors, hoisting bicycles and lifting huge batches of bricks in a show of strength. Many merchants have travelled here with their camels to collect the mineral-rich salt, so that it can be sold around the country. With an average temperature of 34.4 degrees Celcius, it is one of the hottest and harshest environments on earth.
