Australian Open 2017.

Will Sir Andy Murray win this Grand Slam??

Can Serena grab a 23rd Major title?
Records and revenge, though, whet any great champion's appetite.

Tennis. Australian Open 2017...

Bangalore, Jan 13,2017    Women's draw: A spur for Serena

Defending champion Angelique Kerber and world number two Serena Williams are the top contenders at the Australian Open starting Monday Jan 16,2017 Serena Williams comes to Melbourne chasing history and redemption, but needs to be switched on from round one. After the best part of two decades on tour and with 22 majors to her name, incentives to keep winning are harder to come by for Serena Williams.Records and revenge, though, whet any great champion's appetite.
The 35-year-old has both at the forefront of her mind at Australian Open 2017. It starts at the first hurdle when she stands toe to toe with former world No.7 Belinda Bencic. The standout match-up of the women's first round is a serious threat to the American's chances of closing to within one major of Margaret Court's all-time record at the end of the fortnight. Serena's first-round match pits her against 19-year-old Swiss Belinda Bencic, who upset the world No.2 as she surged to her biggest career title at the Canadian Open in 2015. Lucie Safarova, runner-up at the French Open in 2015, could be next for Serena, and former No.1 Caroline Wozniacki sits in the same quarter

Can Serena grab a 23rd Major title?

You wouldn't bet against her. It's been a while (four months, to be precise) since we last saw Serena on the competitive court, but don't read too much into that. When the American superstar comes out to play, she does so to win. Serena will be hungry for a seventh Australian Open title, and because she is who she is you just know it's going to be hard for anyone to stop her.
For Angelique Kerber, there is the added responsibility of defending a Grand Slam title after her breakthrough triumph at last year's Australian Open. Now a two-time major champion after winning the US Open in September, a run that confirmed her status as the new world No.1, the German has reached three of the last four Grand Slam finals.

The other main contenders for the women's title are:

Agnieszka Radwanska
Radwanska was a semi-finalist in Melbourne last year and has made the last eight in five of the last six years, making her a key threat. Now 27 and ranked three in the world, she is desperate to end her long wait for a first Grand Slam crown and the Australian Open may represent her best opportunity.
Simona Halep
The diminutive and aggressive baseliner embarrassingly slumped out in the first round to a qualifier at Melbourne Park last year when seeded two, and will be keen to make amends.
Karolina Pliskova
The tattooed and tall Pliskova, whose twin sister Kristyna is also on the tennis tour, had a breakthrough season in 2015 when she finished as world number 11, and followed it up last year by making the US Open final where she lost to Angelique Kerber.
Dominika Cibulkova
The tiny Slovak, 27, powered into the 2014 Australian Open final for her best-ever showing at a Grand Slam, losing to Li Na. But she crashed in the first round last year, highlighting her up-and-down career.
Garbine Muguruza
Big-hitting Muguruza announced her arrival as a major force with a shock straight-sets victory over Serena Williams in the French Open final last year for her maiden Grand Slam triumph, but consistency has been elusive. Since making waves at the Australian Open in 2014, she has had to grapple with the weight of expectations. Now 23 and ranked seven, she says the challenges of the past years have served her well in managing the pressure heading into 2017. Known for her powerful groundstrokes, the Spaniard will be hoping to do better than the fourth round, which remains her best effort to date in four Melbourne Park appearances

Men's draw: Novak needs to be switched on early. Defending champ handed tough start, while top seed's quarter is stacked with guns
