The year 2016...
The year 2016 was full of events. The US presidential election was pushed back by the "Modi Magic" - demonitaisation of high value Indian currency notes.
Historical win in French open by Djkovic, Elected parliment in Myanmar after 50years, world's longest at 57km tunnel railroad inSwiss, Mother Teresa declared saint, Irom Sharmila ends her hungerstrike after 16 years, etc., everything you know. I have compailed few chosen events of 2016 and presentted here in few pages in the datewise chronological order.
Happy Newyear 2017...

Feb 12, 2016: Fiji became the first country in the world to formally approve the UN climate deal.
Fiji became the first country in the world to formally approve the UN climate deal adopted by 195 nations in Paris in December 2015. The country's parliament voted unanimously to ratify the agreement on Friday, The Fiji Times reported.
The Paris agreement needs the signatures of 55 countries, representing at least 55 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, in order to take effect, but experts are confident it will pass, The Guardian reported.
Fiji's emissions represent a mere 0.04 percent of global emissions (INDIA'S emissions represent at 4.10percent), but many more countries are expected to follow Fiji and ratify the agreement ahead of the signing ceremony.
As a collection of low-lying islands in the South Pacific, Fiji is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and Sayed-Khaiyum told The Guardian that "tackling climate change was a major priority for the archipelago."
In its national climate plan, Fiji cited eroding shorelines, depleted fisheries and large-scale floodingas some of the ways it's already grappling with a changing climate.
Fiji pledged in its plan to generate 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. It also vowed to cut overall emissions from its energy sector by 30 percent by 2030 compared to business-as-usual, as long as it received international support..
The Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement (French: Accord de Paris) is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gases emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020. The language of the agreement was negotiated by representatives of 195 countries at the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC in Paris and adopted by consensus on 12 December 2015. It was opened for signature on 22 April 2016 (Earth Day) at a ceremony in New York. As of November 2016, 193 UNFCCC members have signed the treaty, 114 of which have ratified it. After several European Union states ratified the agreement in October 2016, there were enough countries that had ratified the agreement that produce enough of the world's greenhouse gases for the agreement to enter into force. The agreement went into effect on 4 November 2016.
Feb 12: Britain's Ordnance Survey, using NASA data posts map of Mars on Flickr.
Awesome Map Of Mars Shows Future Ramblers Where To Walk. You'd never get lost on the Red Planet with this. :
But if you do ever end up visiting Mars, rest assured you'll have an easy-to-read map to help find your way around. Britain's Ordnance Survey mapping agency used open NASA data to document the terrain on the fourth planet from the Sun. It posted a map to Flickr Friday that covers 3.8 million square miles, about 7 percent of Mars' surface.
The map shows the Western Arabia Terra region at a scale of 1 to 4 million. The landing sites of the Mars Pathfinder in northwest Ares Vallis and the Opportunity rover, east of Margaritifer Terra, are both featured.
Agency cartographer Chris Wesson spent several months deconstructing the data and creating the map."It was a little hard at first to actually understand the data itself in terms of things like the elevation and the scale and so on," he told the BBC.
"But actually the physical process was almost identical to what was used to make an Earth map, or any OS map."
Apr 12: Breakthrough Starshot: scientists and internet entrepreneurs, including Yuri Milner, Stephen Hawking and Mark Zuckerburg, announce interstellar project to send robot spacecraft to Alpha Centauri.
Tiny rockets are going to be sent into space to study the far universe in the most ambitious space exploration project in history.
Scientists including Stephen Hawking and backers such as internet investor Yuri Milner and Mark Zuckerberg will send "nano craft" deep into space to explore the most remote regions that humans have ever seen, by far.
The hugely ambitious project could reveal deep secrets of the universe and will allow people to photograph one of the most likely places to hold life on other worlds.
The Starshot Project hopes to get the tiny robots out to the Alpha Centauri star system, 25 trillion miles away. Getting there through normal means would take 30,000 years - but the new project hopes that using the tiny rockets will allow them to get there in just 20 years.
Breakthrough Starshot - Nanocraft to Alpha Centauri
Yuri Milner presented Breakthrough Starshot, a ground-based light beamer pushing nanocrafts, ultra-light space probes attached to lightsails, to speeds of up to 100 million miles an hour, which could reach Alpha Centauri in just over 20 years from launch. Together with Proxima Centauri (a Centauri C), Alpha Centauri A (a Centauri A) and Alpha Centauri B (a Centauri B) are considered a triple star system.
Dec 12: Cyclone Vardha hit Chennai after 22 years:
CHENNAI: Severe cyclonic storm Vardah pounded Chennai at an unprecedented 140kmph for a good 90 minutes on Monday Dec 12, 2016 afternoon until it crossed the city and travelled inland, bringing at least 10cm rainfall and claiming seven lives.
